Media Center: Stanišić allowed our representative to access the documentation of candidates and members of the RTCG Council

The Director of the Media Center, Goran Đurović, called on the Secretary General of the Parliament of Montenegro, Boban Stanišić, to issue a decision and respond to the request for free access to information in accordance with legal obligations, in order to, as he stated, enable the Media Center representative to make an introduction to the documentation of all candidates for members of the RTCG Council.

The Media Center states that they submitted a request for freedom of access to information on May 18th and so far the parliamentary service has had to issue and deliver a decision on that request.

"If the Parliament of Montenegro does not want to break the law and hide the documentation submitted by the candidates for members of the RTCG Council, then it will immediately submit to the Media Center a decision allowing access to the candidates' documentation. Based on available databases, the Media Center, by searching the internet, came across data that clearly indicates that the process of appointing new members of the RTCG Council from among non-governmental organizations in the field of media and human rights protection has been seriously compromised because formal deficiencies were observed in the documentation of candidates Veselin Drljević and Amar Škrijelj. If our suspicions prove justified, candidates Veselin Drljević and Amar Škrijelj could not actually be candidates from among NGOs, but Olivera Nikolić and Vladan Mićunović," the Media Center statement states.

They state that they are convinced that the Administrative Board service did not do its job in accordance with the law, and that is why they filed criminal charges.

"If we are not immediately given access to the documentation of all candidates for members of the RTCG Council, which is a legal obligation of the Parliament, it will be just further proof that the parliamentary political majority has its own two candidates that it is trying to present to candidates from non-governmental organizations and install in the RTCG Council in brutal violation of the law," the statement reads.

The Media Center asked in whose interest is it to favor two candidates for members of the RTCG Council based on incomplete documentation?

"Why are political parties that make up the parliamentary majority silent on procedural shortcomings that could lead to problems in closing negotiation chapters 23 and 24 in the EU accession process? Why is the Parliament of Montenegro violating the Law on Free Access to Information? The answers to these questions are known to the EU Delegation, the European Parliament, political entities, NGOs and all citizens," it concludes.
