The adoption of new media laws, the resolution of cases of attacks on journalists, as well as the implementation of the Media Strategy are the priorities of the Ministry of Culture and Media (MKM) and the Government, and the OSCE Mission in Montenegro will provide significant support for the improvement of the situation in the field of media.

This was announced by the Ministry of Culture and Media, Tamara Vujović, after a conversation with the head of the OSCE Mission in Montenegro, Dominik Vag.

Vujović emphasized the importance of the support of the OSCE Mission in Montenegro to the process of improving the media sector and creating conditions for the safe and quality work of journalists.

"By adopting the Media Strategy with the Action Plan, we defined the goals and directions of development of the media sector, all in order to provide a favorable environment for freedom of information, the flow of ideas and opinions in the pursuit of public interest, which will lead to a regulated media market," Vujović said.

She pointed out that the significant increase of the Media Pluralism Fund, which is one of the most important novelties of the text of the new media laws on which the working group worked, will encourage the sustainability of media that can contribute to the improvement of media cooperation, professionalization and better self-regulation.

MKM said that Vag recognized the importance of adopting the Media Strategy, the first strategy of its kind in Montenegro, and said that the Mission is ready to support its implementation and the accompanying Action Plan.

"The mission also supports the ongoing transformation of the National Public Service RTCG," said Vag.

She also spoke about the necessity of improving the transparency of media ownership, as well as the issue of media monitoring during election campaigns.

"The OSCE mission will provide continuous support to the media, specifically in the field of media coverage and media literacy, as well as support to media self-regulatory bodies and the Agency for Electronic Media," said Vog.

She also spoke about activities to suppress hate speech, as well as the Mission's cooperation with the Commission that monitors investigations into cases of attacks on journalists, because the safety of journalists is one of the basic principles of the OSCE.
