This year's 16th regional festival of books and writers "BOOKA 2024", as well as an exhibition of English books, were opened in the Kosmos bookshop in the Master quarter in Podgorica, where visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy a diverse program of literary promotions, meetings with authors and a large number of English books.
She officially opened the festival Jelena Borovinić Bojović who emphasized the importance of literature, describing this year's program as extremely high-quality.
"Literature has been communicating with the audience on the most subtle level for centuries, and through reading engagement, a person mentally rises above his own problems or interprets reality from a new perspective. Whether we fantasize with literature, learn foreign languages or simply contemplate words, we think critically and grow in this way. In other words, there is no nobler process than that of reading, nor braver than that of writing. In the book, these processes meet, and it becomes both a witness and a proof of initiation, initiative and social change," she said.
Immediately after the opening of the "Booka" salon, the deputy ambassador of Great Britain addressed the audience Sarah Pilbeam, which opened the exhibition of English books, which is also the first program of this year's edition of the festival.
"This festival has a special meaning because it provides an opportunity to promote the rich literary tradition, and this time the literary tradition of the United Kingdom, highlighting the importance of our authors and their works," said Pilbim.
She reminded me of the words of the famous British author William Wordsworth: "Fill the mind with noble thoughts - that is the greatest purpose of reading" and invited everyone to enjoy the program.
Organizers from the "Nova knjiga" publishing house stated that, after the ceremonial opening at the Kosmos bookstore in the Master quarter, a rich program will be held until December 29, where new books by contemporary domestic and regional authors will be presented. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the performance of the play "Two Women and One War" by them Vjera Mujović i Maria Bergam, as well as in the New Year's Eve concerts "Because of you, because of yourself, because of others" Rada Šerbedžija and West Station in Nikšić, Podgorica and Herceg Novi.
"During the duration of the Salon, discounts of 20 to 50 percent on books by regional publishers will be valid, which will be an excellent opportunity for visitors to, in addition to socializing with authors - who always make the reading experience deeper and more complete, secure their own copies and enrich the library at affordable prices." statements from the New Book.
