Feature film "The Dissolution of the Ruler", screenwriter and director Ivan Salatić, will have its world premiere at the 54th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), which runs from January 30 to February 9. Within the main competitive selection "Tiger", which brings "new voices from all over the world", 14 world premieres will be held.
"Set in the 19th century, the plot follows the poet and lord of Brdo - Morlak. Deathly ill, he goes on a journey in search of a cure. On that journey to the south of the Mediterranean, he is accompanied by his faithful servant Đuko. "Torn between duty and longing for the homeland, Đuko faces his master's fate, struggling with jealousy, nostalgia and a sense of inevitable doom," the synopsis states.
It is a non-historical film inspired by the Montenegrin hills, the Film Center of Montenegro (FCCG) pointed out earlier, which in the 19th century, although surrounded by Turks, were the only free territory in the Balkans.
The roles are played by: Marko Pogačar, Luka Petrone, Vanja Matić, Vladimir Milošević, Igor Božanić, Tea Ljubešić i Jakov Zovko.
"The Melting of Rulers" is the second feature film by Ivan Salatić, who in 2018 participated in the Venice festival with the film "Ti imaš noć" as part of the "Critic's Week" selection. The director of photography is Ivan Markovic, editor Jelena Maksimović, and they sign the scenography Dragana Bacovic i Marija Mitic. They are costume designers Lidija Andrić i Tijana Milutinović, sound designer Amaury Arboun, and he composed the music Toni Crutone.
The producers of the film are Jelena Angelovski i Dušan Kasalica in front of the Meander film production company from Montenegro. They are Italian co-producers Ines Vasiljevic i Stefano Sardo from Nightswim, a French co-producer Jasmina Sijerčić from Bocalupo Films, Croatian co-producer Tena Gojić from Dinaridi film, and Serbian Stefan Ivančić, Dragana Jovović i Ognjen Glavonic from Non-Aligned Films. The co-producer of the film is the Radio-television of Montenegro.
