When it comes to "Donkey Years", through a well-known work Branko Ćopić small, everyday people will speak, the residents of his native Hasan, his grandfather, his friends from the boarding school in Bihać, but also the heroes of NOB.
He did the dramaturgy Vuk Draganic, scenography Smiljka Šeparović, and costumes Mia Đurović. Acting: Luka Stanković, Nevena Penava, Dejan Đonović, Zoran Dragićević, Marija Đurić, Željko Radunović i Bozidar Zuber.
In this adaptation, the action is set in a dormitory for students, somewhere among sunflowers that whisper and moonlight that writes verses, between first loves and tears, and the heroes are somewhere between 13, 14, 15 years old.
“It's a world where ladders turn into dreams - we climb them not just to sneak up on our friends, but to try to reach the moon. And then we realize: the moon is grasped with bare hands", says director Andrija Rašović.
The play is freed from the war context from which the novel starts, and is focused on the central event of the children's rebellion against the boarding school administration for expelling one of their friends, Gradski points out.
"However, the play also follows the individual maturation of the main character, the Poet, who, in addition to moral maturation precisely through rebellion, only matures and realizes that he is growing up when he cries because of love. Branko Ćopić calls those years donkey years - years of unrest, rebellion and love. The play is not only about children's rebellion against injustice, but about their right to be confused by the world we have left them and their right to embrace that world with love, honestly and without fear", they stated earlier.
