During his directorial term at the Podgorica City Theatre, the focus Sandra Vujović will be responsible for leadership, strategic development and creating conditions for an even stronger artistic and organizational breakthrough. She told "Vijesti" on the occasion of her election to that position, which was made yesterday by the City Theater Council.
The City Theatre Council selected and proposed playwright Vujović as the new director of the cultural institution, based on a public competition and the attached documentation, and after interviews with three candidates. In addition to Vujović, a theatre critic also applied for this position. Iva Čukić Šoškić and former director of the Tivat Cultural Center Vojislav Vojo Kaludjerovic who is currently the head of the production sector at the Tivat institution.
The Council, chaired by Milos Marovic, and whose members are: Nina Strugar, Stevan Kandic, Marko Vujisic i Nikola Krstić From among the employees, according to the Statute of the City Theatre, it elects a director, after which the founder, i.e. the Assembly of the Capital City of Podgorica, gives its approval.
"I am extremely honored and deeply grateful for the trust shown in appointing me as the director of the City Theatre. I am still gathering impressions, because it is a great responsibility, but also a huge honor, primarily because I am becoming part of a collective that represents one of the most important cultural centers in Montenegro and the region. The City Theatre is an institution that, from the earliest days, inspired me to dedicate myself to theater and fall in love with dramatic art," Vujović told Vijesti.
She expressed her gratitude to the City Theatre Council for their trust and support, especially, she says, in the context of recognizing her professional experience to date and the proposed four-year theater development plan, which she emphasizes, she designed and nominated with great care.
"The council has recognized my work to date and the vision that I presented through the four-year theater development plan. I see this trust as a great obligation and responsibility, and I will strive to fully justify it through dedicated work and open cooperation with the team," she said.
The mandate of the General Director of the Podgorica City Theatre lasts four years. The Council agreed that the new management faces a challenging period and numerous (inherited) problems. Vujović is aware of this.
"The City Theatre faces two major and historic moments - moving to a new, modernly equipped building, while next year it will celebrate its 75th anniversary. These events will be a turning point of sorts, but also an opportunity to further strengthen the theatre's position as a space for free thought, top-notch art and open dialogue with the audience," she concluded.
In an informal conversation with Vijesti, a representative of the City Theatre Council emphasized that all three candidates offered a quality vision and program for the development of the cultural institution, and that the nuances were decisive, and that Vujović fulfilled every segment of the criteria. Vujović emphasized that she believes that the Council would not have made a mistake if it had chosen any of the three.
"The competition for the selection of the head of the City Theatre is public, which means that anyone who meets the competition requirements could apply. In this year's competition, in addition to me, two colleagues who I highly respect also applied because they are professionals with rich experience and respectable biographies. I sincerely believe that the Council, by deciding in favor of any of the three of us, would have made an equally legitimate and quality decision," emphasized Vujović.
Sandra Vujović graduated from the Dramaturgy Department of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Cetinje in 2011. In addition to her profession as a dramaturg, Vujović is also a writer, screenwriter, director, and has experience working in the marketing sector. She is the author of several plays and screenplays, as well as the director of several theater plays.
"The theater is a space where we value knowledge, creativity, dedication and open dialogue, and these are precisely the values that I strive to nurture throughout my career. I look forward to collaborating with the dedicated team of the City Theater and believe that together we will achieve ambitious goals, with even stronger connections with the audience, artists and the community," said Vujović.
