The traditional event "Archive Sunday", dedicated to promoting the rich Montenegrin history and raising awareness about the importance of archival activities and materials, will be held from May 26 to 30, organized by the State Archives of Montenegro.
This year's event brings a rich and diverse program, which will include more than a hundred events throughout Montenegro. Conferences, exhibitions, presentations, lectures, organized visits of students and teachers, as well as open days have been announced.
Director of the State Archives of Montenegro Danilo Mrvaljevic He emphasized that the event has a special role in connecting institutions and citizens through the joint affirmation and valorization of the rich Montenegrin cultural heritage.
"Archive Sunday is a unique opportunity to bring the precious heritage that we preserve with special care and responsibility closer to citizens. Through a rich and diverse program, we want to highlight the key role of archives as the foundation of the collective memory of our society. I believe that this event, which is held throughout Montenegro, will be a true celebration of culture and knowledge, confirming once again the importance of the State Archives as the guardian of written cultural heritage and a place where history, culture and the contemporary moment meet," said Mrvaljević.
The program will bring together representatives of numerous institutions, as well as citizens, who will have the opportunity to enjoy carefully designed content, dedicated to some of the most important moments in Montenegrin history and the famous figures who shaped it. Special attention will be paid to the youngest through organized visits to archive departments and accompanying educational programs, with the aim of developing awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
This year's program, the organizers point out, will feature several significant events, including the promotion of the Proceedings of the International Scientific and Professional Conference "Miloš Milošević and the Cultural Tradition of Boka" in Kotor on May 27th, dedicated to the preservation of the cultural heritage of Boka Kotorska, organized by the Archives, at 18 p.m.
The visit of representatives of SUBNOR Montenegro and the ceremonial signing of the Cooperation Agreement, which will be held at the Archives Department for the History of the Labor Movement in Podgorica, will be held on May 28 at 13 p.m.
The fifth conference of librarians, archivists and museum professionals - LAM 28, organized by the National Library, State Archives and National Museum of Montenegro, will be held in Cetinje on May 29th and 2025th.
"The conference will bring together experts from the country and the region and will be held in the 'Ivan Crnojević' ceremonial hall in the Government House on the first day, and in the 'Đurđe Crnojević' hall of the National Library on the next day," the Archives announced.
In addition, during the same period, numerous exhibitions will be presented throughout Montenegro that will remind visitors of the rich economic, cultural and educational past, as well as the significant figures who have shaped Montenegrin history.
The exhibition "Economy in Rožaje" will open in Rožaje on May 26th, in the gallery of the Cultural Center, at 14 p.m. The following day, an online exhibition "District People's Committee Titograd/People's Committee of the Titograd District - General Administration 1945-1959" (aopgizlozba2025.blogspot.com) will be held in Podgorica, and on May 28th, an online exhibition "Teachers' Association in Bar 1919-1935" (izlozba2025.blogspot.com) will also be held in Bar.
The exhibition "Teachers' School of Cetinje", which presents the rich educational tradition of the capital through authentic documents and photographs, will open in Cetinje on May 29 at 11 am, and on the same day in Nikšić, the exhibition "Jefto Miletin Nikolić", dedicated to a significant figure in Montenegrin history, will be held, which will also be held in the ceremonial hall of Tehnopolis at 19 pm.
A retrospective exhibition of documents and photographs of the Ulcinj Archive Department from the period 2011 to 2024 will open in Ulcinj on May 30th at noon.
The organizers invite all citizens, schools, institutions and history lovers to enhance the upcoming events with their presence and contribute to the preservation of the rich archival heritage of Montenegro.
