Dr Radoje Femic will give a lecture "The Lone Wolf in Literature", on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of his birth Žarka Komanina and 15 years since his death, tonight at the City Hall in Nikšić, at 19 p.m.
The lecture is organized by the Public Institution National Library "Njegoš" as part of the May repertoire of the Nikšić cultural scene.
Dr. Radoje Femić is responsible for the fact that Žarko Komanin's work was included in his doctoral dissertation. Four years ago, he defended his dissertation at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad entitled "The Literary Work of Žarko Komanin: Texts, Poetics, Context".
Komanin was born in 1935, in the village of Drenoštica, into a family of teachers, Jovanović. He took the literary surname Komanin, after the Komani tribe, in the Katun district. He completed elementary school in his hometown, high school in Nikšić, and the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade.
He published his first prose (the story "The Fugitive") in 1956 in the newspaper "Student". For ten years (1964–1974) he worked as a theater critic in the newspaper "Večernje novosti", and for over 20 years (1976–2001) as a playwright at the National Theater in Belgrade.
He is the author of the plays "Prophet", "Pelinovo", "Ognjište", "Timočka buna", "VoždKarađorđe i knez Miloš", "Godo je doša po svoje", which were performed in theaters throughout the former Yugoslavia. He has published the novels "Kolijevka", "Kostanići", "Provalije", "Prestupna godina", "Governor of the armies", "If I forget you, my father" and "Chloetopis evrječnosti", the stories "Zakopano i otkopano" and the script for the film "Jovana Lukina". It has been translated into French, Russian, Slovak, Macedonian, English, Romanian and Italian.
His latest novel, "Chronicle of Eternity", for which he received the "Bora Stanković" award, was shortlisted for the 2009 Nin Award. His play "Pelinovo" was banned in the Montenegrin National Theatre in 1972, and during the same period was performed in Belgrade, Zagreb, Skopje, Kragujevac, Zrenjanin, Subotica, Pristina, Mostar.
A book titled "Wormwood by Žarko Komanin" was published about his literary work, by the author Miloš Jevtić, collection of works "If I Forget You, My Father", editor Jovan Delic, and "Žarko Komanin - language, myth, literature", edited by prof. dr. Lidija Tomic.
The writer who tirelessly spoke about the defeated man of the 20th century, even when many did not want, or were unable to, hear that story, died in Belgrade in 2010 and was buried in Nikšić.
"I was lucky to be bypassed and not to be rewarded. I'm not used to being celebrated by anyone, but I'm used to being banned and persecuted," said the prose and drama writer and playwright.
