During a two-day expert meeting held in Kotor, the Ministry of Culture and Media (MKM) and the Municipality of Kotor officially took over, for the next two years, the chairmanship of the transnational network "Venetian Fortifications of the 16th and 17th Centuries", inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in Krakow in 2017.
This was announced today by the Municipality of Kotor.
The statement added that representatives of the ministries of culture of Italy, Croatia and Montenegro, as well as the cities on whose territories the fortifications are located, Bergamo, Palmanova, Peschiera del Garda, Zadar, Šibenik and Kotor, had the opportunity to exchange experiences, examples of positive practices, as well as the challenges they face in the process of protection, preservation, putting into function sustainable use, but also valorization of the universal values of the rich cultural heritage of the three countries with a special emphasis on the common good - the Venetian fortifications, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
"That managing such sensitive and complex structures as fortifications requires complex work, a multidisciplinary approach, as well as cooperation between all levels of government, starting from the national and local, and the involvement of the professional and local community, is the common conclusion of all participants," the statement from the Municipality of Kotor states.
The Municipality of Kotor said that the meeting was opened by the President of the Municipality of Kotor Vladimir Jokić, "while the General Director of the Directorate for Culture Dobrila Vlahović, on behalf of MKM, greeted those present and introduced them to the activities so far and the plans that MKM is implementing in cooperation with the Municipality of Kotor, when it comes to work on the strategic document, the management plan for the Kotor Fortress, as well as the activities that are being implemented when it comes to the extension of the Forte Mare Fortress, this transactional world heritage property.
"The moderators were Dobrila Vlahović, Director General of the Directorate for Cultural Heritage at the Ministry of Culture and Media, and Jelena Franović, Secretary of the Secretariat for Urbanism, Housing and Spatial Planning in the Municipality of Kotor," the statement from the Municipality of Kotor reads.
