Montenegro has an ambitious plan to close the remaining chapters in negotiations with the European Union (EU) by the end of next year, said Parliament Speaker Andrije Mandić, stating that this year the focus will be on closing seven key chapters.
As announced by the Parliament, in a conversation with the Speaker of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Denmark, Soren Gade Jensen, Mandić emphasized the importance of that country's upcoming presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of this year.
Mandić pointed out the importance of timely preparation for the drafting of the Agreement on Montenegro's Accession to the EU, and said that he hopes for strong support from Denmark so that this issue is included on the agenda before the start of the Danish presidency.
Mandić reportedly highlighted the historic results achieved by the current parliamentary majority, such as numerous key appointments in the judiciary, a positive IBAR, and the closure of three negotiation chapters at the end of last year.
He reiterated that we have an ambitious goal for Montenegro to close all remaining negotiation chapters by the end of 2026, while this year, as he said, the focus will be on closing seven key chapters.
Mandić invited President Jensen to pay an official visit to Montenegro, adding that the opening of the Montenegrin embassy in Copenhagen, which is in its final stages, will be a significant help in the realization of this and future official visits.
Jensen, they said, thanked them for the opportunity to meet with Mandić, adding that Denmark clearly sees the impressive results that Montenegro has achieved in the past year and a half.
Jensen emphasized that Denmark has always supported Montenegro in the EU integration process and that we can count on their help at any time.
