President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović welcomed the President of Greece Konstantinos Tassulas in Cetinje, with the highest state and military honors.
The President of Greece, at the invitation of Milatović, is on an official visit to Montenegro from December 10 to 12.
"The visit of President Tassulas has a special significance for Montenegro. It represents the eleventh visit of the president of an EU member state to Montenegro during President Milatović's mandate, which confirms the increasingly intense political dialogue and growing support of European partners for our country's progress towards EU membership. It is also important to point out that this is only the second bilateral visit by President Tassulas since taking office, which confirms Greece's great respect for Montenegro and President Milatović's role in strengthening interstate ties," Milatović's office announced earlier.
They said then that Montenegro and Greece have traditionally nurtured friendly relations, based on trust, cooperation and a shared vision of the European future.
"President Tasulas will be welcomed by Minister of Culture Tamara Vujović upon his arrival in Podgorica, and President Milatović will hold a formal welcoming ceremony at the Residence in Cetinje, where the two presidents will have a meeting. After that, they will address the media, and then plant a friendship tree in the courtyard of the Residence, as a symbol of the lasting ties between Montenegro and Greece," it added.
That same evening, Tasulas will have a meeting with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić.
On the second day of the visit, on Thursday, December 11, the President of Greece, in the presence of Milatović, will lay a wreath at the monument to the Partisan-Fighter, in Gorica, after which he will hold a joint lecture at the Faculty of Political Sciences, within the framework of the EU Academy of Presidents, on the topic "From Thessaloniki to Today: A Promise Becoming a European Reality".
"Of particular importance is the fact that Greece will assume the presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2027, at a time when Montenegro is expecting the final phase of the accession process. President Tassulas' participation in the EU Academy is a strong message of support for Montenegro's European future," it is emphasized.
On the same day, the President of Greece will meet with the Speaker of the Parliament, Andrija Mandić.
"This visit represents another step in strengthening cooperation between Montenegro and Greece, deepening mutual trust and confirming that Montenegro enjoys the continuous and principled support of Greece on its path towards full membership in the European Union," Milatović's office said.
