The President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Andrija Mandić, the Speaker of the US Congress, Mike Johnson, and the Speaker of the Knesset, Amir Ohana, have nominated US President Donald Trump for this year's Nobel Peace Prize.
This was announced today by the Parliament of Montenegro.
In a post on the Iks website, Mandić said that he felt proud to have signed the nomination.
As stated in the statement of the Parliament of Montenegro, the Head of the Cabinet of the President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mirko Miličić, met in Jerusalem with his colleague, the Head of the Cabinet of the President of the Knesset, Roni Tal.
"On that occasion, Miličić highlighted the excellent cooperation between the two parliaments, as well as the two cabinets, adding that it is a strong message of friendship being sent in this turbulent time for the world, especially emphasizing in this context the centuries-old common understanding, friendship and suffering of the Serbian and Jewish people. Discussing diplomatic activities that were particularly notable in the previous year, Miličić emphasized that in 2026 we expect a visit from Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, and that the two presidents will very likely meet at conferences in the US and Europe in the coming period," the statement said.
Tal reportedly said that Israel sees Montenegro as a sincere friend, and that cooperation between the Parliament of Montenegro and the Israeli Knesset is at a historic high.
"After the meeting, the Head of the Cabinet of the President of the Parliament, Secretary General of the Parliament Boban Stanišić and the President of the Jewish Community of Montenegro and Advisor to the President of the Parliament Nina Ofner Bokan met with the Speaker of the Knesset Amir Ohan. On that occasion, they presented him with a letter from President Mandić, as well as the initiative to nominate US President Donald Trump for this year's Nobel Peace Prize, which was signed by the Speaker of the US Congress Mike Johnson, the President of the Knesset and President Mandić," the statement from the Parliament of Montenegro reads.
"I feel proud that my cabinet delegation, together with the Secretary General of the Assembly, yesterday in the holy city of Jerusalem presented my signature to the joint nomination of the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, for this year's Nobel Peace Prize, which, together with me, was initiated by the Speaker of the US Congress, Mike Johnson, and the Speaker of the Knesset, Amir Ohana," Mandić stated on the X network.
He also said that he deeply believes that in this way they are sending a clear message that what the Western Balkans and the Middle East, as well as the entire world, need most today is peace and stability.
"We are certain that numerous other colleagues, presidents of parliaments from around the world, will support this noble initiative of ours," said Mandić.
