Mujović: Directors from DNP should resign or distance themselves from Knežević's statements

"I would ask those directors if they stand behind Knežević's statements, and if they do and support them, I think it is correct and humane, and above all profitable for them, to not support such a mayor and to resign," said the mayor of Podgorica.

Podgorica Mayor Sasa Mujovic called on members of the Democratic People's Party (DNP) to resign or publicly distance themselves from the statements and positions of the party's leader, Milan Knezevic.

In an interview with RTV Podgorica, Mujović pointed out that it is obvious that there is a clear intention to cause instability in Montenegro, and that there is significant support from abroad.

Mujović congratulated Knežević on his political retirement.

"We can talk about anything, but let's avoid politics at a slightly higher level and advice. I don't owe him anything and his advice will go completely unnoticed by me and I ask him to bypass me," said Mujović, responding to Knežević's call to resign.

The mayor points out that this is one of the greatest absurdities that could have happened - that the start of the most important and historic city project and the implementation of three key phases - components of the wastewater treatment plant, result in a crisis that has led to the parliamentary majority no longer existing.

"The opposition, reinforced by the DNP and Free Montenegro, now has a majority and can launch an initiative for my dismissal and shortening the work of the Capital City Assembly. The most important thing for me is that my conscience is clear, and for at least two reasons - I know that I did the right things and that I did everything for this city, and that I avoided any calculations. I could have prolonged the start of this project. The second reason why I have no reason to worry is that I have the nerve to appear before these people that there are elections tomorrow. Let everyone do their part, and no later than 2027 we will measure ourselves and see who did what and how," Mujović emphasized, according to the RTV Podgorica portal.

The Government of Montenegro has dismissed some of the DNP staff, and Mujović is calling on DNP officials in the capital to express their position regarding Knežević's statements.

"I am waiting for them and their position. If you are part of the DNP, whose leader Knežević said that the happiest day of his life was when he left that bloody government, if he said about me that I am corrupt and that I took money from representatives of a Turkish company, and that my wife opened a boutique in Budva and that she is part of an organized crime group, and if you share that position, keep quiet and do not react, then you support it. I would ask those directors if they stand behind Knežević's statements, and if they stand behind them and support them, I think it is correct and humane, and above all profitable for them, not to support such a mayor and to resign. I invite them and I want to hear their position. Do they want to resign or distance themselves from what Knežević's position is, and I will know how I will decide on that," said Mujović.
