Today's session of the Bijelo Polje Municipal Assembly was postponed due to a lack of quorum, after councilors from the ruling Bosniak Party and the opposition failed to attend the session.

"Vijesti" was previously told by BS that they would boycott today's session as well.

The postponement of today's session has extended the two-month government crisis, due to the conditions set for the Democratic Party of Socialists in that city by the Bosniak Party, dissatisfied with the way it is exercising power.

Zvrko: We are for negotiations, we do not agree to ultimatums

Councilor and president of the Bijelo Polje DPS committee, Elvir Zvrko, said that they expect to successfully conclude negotiations on open issues with coalition partner Bosniak Party.

Zvrko told reporters, after the session was postponed, that they had sent an official response to the BS platform a few days ago and that they were awaiting a response in order to continue negotiations.

When asked by "Vijesti" which BS demands they had agreed to, he said that it was agreed not to comment on the content of the negotiations.

When asked by TV Vijesti whether they were ready to look for coalition partners in the opposition, in case an agreement with the Bosniak Party was not reached, Zvrko said that it was in the interest of the citizens that the government be stable and that the previous government had shown that it was working in the best interests of the citizens of Bijelo Polje.

"Our expectation is that we will successfully conclude negotiations on open issues with our coalition partner," he stressed.

He said there are certain deadlines for reaching an agreement. "The first deadline is March 31, when the temporary funding expires, but there are other deadlines as well."

Zvrko said that local self-government is technically functioning, but that citizens are suffering the most due to the failure to adopt the budget.

"Our attempt is to get out of this situation as soon as possible, so that the budget can be implemented in full," he emphasized.

When asked what the "red lines" are that DPS will not cross, Zvrko said that he would not agree to ultimatums.

"We are in favor of negotiations, of discussing open issues with the aim of better functioning of local self-government. We will conduct negotiations within the framework of these principles," he said.

The DPS Bijelo Polje board announced this morning that on Friday, February 13, they officially submitted a response to BS, which, as they said, precisely defined the DPS's positions and the principles they insist on in the further course of the talks.

By doing so, they say in DPS, they have shown responsibility, seriousness and readiness for institutional dialogue.

The President of the Municipality of Bijelo Polje, Petar Smolović (DPS), said yesterday that he expects all councilors to show responsibility towards citizens and enable the session and budget discussion to take place.

The Municipality's statement signed by Smolović emphasized that the budget is not a matter of one party or political majority, but rather a basic document that enables the functioning of the municipality, the implementation of projects, and the regular financing of all obligations to citizens.
