President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović opened today in Podgorica the exhibition "20 Years in 20 Pictures" - a visual history of the state, marking 20 years since the restoration of Montenegrin independence.
Milatović opened the exhibition in front of the building of the President of Montenegro.
"Today, an exhibition entitled '20 Years in 20 Photographs' was opened in front of the building of the President of Montenegro, which was prepared as part of the program marking two decades since the restoration of Montenegro's independence. Twenty photographs represent an emotional and powerful testimony to the most important moments of contemporary Montenegrin history: from the day of the restoration of independence, the international affirmation of the state, great sporting successes, social changes, infrastructure projects and scientific achievements that have marked the previous two decades," the press release of the Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro states.
The statement states that "each photograph represents a part of the collective memory and the journey we have taken together."
"The photographs bear witness to the time when the state was building its institutions, strengthening its international position, seeking its place in the European family of nations, a time of challenges, big decisions, victories, perseverance, but also moments of togetherness and pride that left a deep mark on society," said the Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro.
The statement says that these 20 photographs confirm that Montenegro, despite numerous challenges, knew how to choose courage, take responsibility and walk strongly on the European path.
"Therefore, the last photo in the series represents the largest international event in the history of our country: the EU-Western Balkans Summit, which will be held on June 5 in Tivat. Then the message will be sent that all of Europe is in Montenegro and that Montenegro is in Europe. Three separate covers of the Montenegrin print media 'Dana', 'Vijesti' and 'Pobjeda' are a recognition of the important role of the media in the contemporary history of Montenegro. Their place within the exhibition represents support for the work of the print media, but also a reminder that it was the media that were indispensable witnesses and protagonists of all the major social and political events that the country went through. This exhibition is a kind of reminder of how many great things we have done in 20 years and how much every moment was a motivation for building a modern, solidary, civic and economically strong state," said the Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro.
They said that at the end of the exhibition, a symbolic message was left that Montenegro should become the 28th member of the European Union by 2028, which, according to the Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro, indicated that the exhibition does not only represent a look at the previous twenty years, but also a look towards the future of a country that sees its stability, development and prosperity as part of the European family of nations.
