In Montenegro, it is urgently necessary to fill the Constitutional Court and elect the missing judges, it was announced at a working lunch between Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović and European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
As announced by Milatović's office, in an open and friendly conversation, opinions were exchanged on the current moment in Montenegro's accession negotiations with the European Union (EU).
It is stated that the results achieved during the Cypriot presidency and the importance of forming an ad hoc Working Group for the preparation of the Accession Treaty of Montenegro were noted in the conversation.
It was assessed that it is necessary to further intensify reform activities leading to the fulfillment of the final benchmarks in the remaining negotiation chapters, in order to achieve the set goal of completing the technical part of the negotiations by the end of the year.
"In the area of the rule of law, which is the core of the integration process and on which the overall pace of negotiations depends, it was particularly emphasized that it is necessary to urgently fill the Constitutional Court and elect the missing judges, a process that has been pending for several months," Milatović's office stated.
As they said, during the meeting, there was talk of the upcoming EU-Western Balkans Summit, which is a historic event for Montenegro, which will host this gathering.
Milatović reiterated the key messages that will be sent during the Summit, primarily that Montenegro is ready to become the first EU member state.
"Montenegro's full membership will have a positive impact on other countries in the region and demonstrate that the enlargement policy is credible and alive. Also, Montenegro's membership will positively influence the level of Euro-optimism that is necessary for both candidate countries and the EU, in terms of its stronger global positioning," the statement said.
