Podgorica marked the 175th anniversary of the birth of the great Romanian poet, philosopher and journalist Mihai Eminescu on the occasion of the National Day of Romanian Culture. The event also saw the presentation of prizes to the winners of a quiz organized by the Vijesti portal and the Romanian Embassy in Montenegro.

"Mihai Eminescu was an incredible personality, he was a poet, philosopher and journalist. He played a key role in shaping the Romanian language, as we know it today. He was an important voice of civil society and an example for all those who came after him," said Ambassador Matei-Viorel Ardeleanu at the ceremony.

A monument to this extraordinary figure was unveiled last year in Podgorica, further strengthening the ties between Montenegro and Romania.

"This monument symbolizes our mutual respect and friendship, reminding us of the universal power of art that transcends borders and unites people of different cultures. As part of further strengthening our cultural ties, we plan to erect a memorial plaque to Petar II Petrović Njegoš in the city of Craiova as a symbol of respect for his cultural and literary heritage," said Minister of Culture and Media Tamara Vujović at the event.

The President of the Capital City Assembly, Jelena Borovinić Bojović, said that the friendship between Romania and Montenegro has been strengthened by the unveiling of the Eminescu monument...

"... as well as by naming a street in Podgorica after the city of Craiova, the capital of the Romanian Doge County. Then we promised in front of this monument that this would be a place of meeting and inspiration for all of us."

This was also an opportunity to present awards to the winners of the quiz on Romanian history and culture, which was facilitated and supported by the Vijesti portal.

"In this case, it seems to me, the news has once again demonstrated its significant emancipatory role and role in connecting people and worlds by publishing a whole series of promotional texts dealing with the culture, art, and natural beauties of this great country. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Romanian Embassy, which approached, so to speak, this joint project of ours with great dedication. And what is of great delight to us is the enormous response, not only from readers who read all those texts in large numbers, but also from the great interest in our knowledge quiz that we created together, and what is especially great satisfaction is that there were many, many correct answers," said Daily Press Director Marijana Bojanić.
