A shelter in the center of Tirana built during the dictatorship of Enver Hoxha (1944-1990), who built about 700.000 bunkers, has been turned into a museum and is now open to visitors.
"The museum is dedicated to the thousands of victims of communism who were shot and died in labor camps," Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said after visiting the building.
The bunker was built in the early 80s, has about 1.000 square meters and is connected to several underground galleries that stretch all over Tirana.
In that shelter there are offices and rooms with listening devices.
Living in fear of external aggression, Albanian communist leader Enver Hoxha built more than 700.000 bunkers as well as several thousand kilometers of tunnels to defend the country, now a member of NATO.
Some of those tunnels and bunkers are now at the disposal of the Ministry of Tourism, which wants to use them as a tourist attraction.
