The new mayor of Srebrenica, Mladen Grujicic, assumed his mandate today in Sarajevo, and afterwards stated that the tensions after the elections in that municipality were unnecessary and that the situation is already calming down.
"Everyone has come to terms with the fact that democratic elections took place in Srebrenica," Grujicic said, adding that none of the checks showed any irregularities.
According to Grujičić, the plans for the next four years are the return of dignity to Srebrenica, work on solving economic issues with the aim of ensuring that the citizens who live in the area of that municipality stay there, the portal Klix.ba reported.
Grujičić said that there will be no inter-ethnic tensions, as, as he said, there have been no excesses until now.
"I hope that the negative messages from Srebrenica will stop and that we will send positive examples of a better life together," said Grujicic, who won the last local elections as a joint candidate of Serbian parties.
Former mayor Ćamil Duraković, on the other hand, took the defeat with difficulty and does not recognize it in the expectation that the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina will respond positively to his appeal that the elections in Srebrenica were irregular.
