Vučić: I want us to build twice as many kilometers of highway as Tito

The Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said today in Riga that he wants "twice as many" kilometers of highways to be built in Serbia in the coming period than during the 35 years of Josip Broz Tito's rule. As announced by the Government of Serbia, Vučić, as part of the Summit of the leaders of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and China in the capital of Latvia, spoke with the representatives of the Chinese company CRBC about the sections of the roads for which the contracts were signed. "Tomorrow we open the Ljig-Preljina section, which is 40,4 kilometers long, and then Obrenovac-Ub and the third part of the Lajkovac-Ljig section, where we have a problem with expropriation. It is a priority for us to soon agree with them on the Požega-Preljina section, which is 31 kilometer, the completion of which would dramatically increase the tourism potential of Western Serbia," said the Prime Minister of Serbia. According to him, the Chinese are also interested in the section of the highway from Požega to Boljar, on the border with Montenegro, since it is in line with their strategy of reaching the Adriatic, Baltic and Black Seas. "From Požega to Boljar, we have 107 difficult kilometers, and that is the most difficult part of the road in our country. It is not worth building for anyone because that road is estimated at 1,8 to XNUMX billion, but if we agree with Montenegro on some kind of concessions for the entire Belgrade-Bar route, then we might be able to close it," said Vučić. He added that BiH representatives mentioned a connection from Sarajevo via Belgrade to Central Europe, while the Macedonians insist on a Belgrade-Skopje-Thessaloniki connection. "Serbia is somewhere in the center of the road corridor. More and more things are revolving around Belgrade and, above all, Niš," said Vučić.
