The "Skoplje" investigative prison informed the Skopje criminal court today that the MP and former Prime Minister of Macedonia, Nikola Gruevski, did not voluntarily report to serve his sentence within the time limit stipulated by law.
The criminal court "Skoplje 1" told the local media that, after several unsuccessful attempts since Friday, they will try again today to serve Gruevski with a decision to send him to prison for two years according to the final verdict in the "Tank" case.
"By the end of the working day, the court will report on the last attempt to serve Gruevski with a decision and on further proceedings if this is not successful," says the portal "Sakam da kažam" (sdk.mk), recalling that the court deliveryman on Friday evening in three attempts did not find the former prime minister at the address on the ID card.
The prison's notification that Gruevski did not voluntarily report to serve his sentence within the stipulated time is a condition on the basis of which the court can demand the issuance of a warrant.
Late on Friday afternoon, the Criminal Council of the Basic Court "Skoplje 1" rejected Gruevski's appeal and confirmed the decision denying the ex-prime minister a postponement of his prison sentence and sent him to prison.
According to the referral act, Gruevski was supposed to report to the prison in the Šuto Orizari neighborhood in Skopje no later than November 8, but that deadline was broken until the end of the appeal period and the decision of the Criminal Council.
Gruevski was legally sentenced to two years in prison for the illegal purchase of an armored "Mercedes S 600 guard" in 2012, when he was prime minister.
In that court proceeding, Gordana Jankulovska, then Minister of the Interior and Gruevski's close associate, was sentenced to six years in prison at first instance, while her assistant Đoko Popovski was sentenced to four and a half years.
The purchase of a luxury car paid for almost 600.000 euros became known in 2015, when the opposition published a wiretapped conversation in which Gruevski asked the then minister Jankulovska for her Ministry of Internal Affairs to buy a "Mercedes" that he would use, without the public finding out.
