The Albanian agency INA reported that former Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski was granted asylum in Hungary.

Referring to the unofficial writing of the Hungarian media, INA reports that Nikola Gruevski was granted asylum based on the request he submitted to the local authorities.

Portal 24.hu writes that the Office for Migration granted Gruevski asylum, but so far, as stated, there is no official information about it yet.

In Hungary, the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Peter Szijarto, made an official statement on this issue, saying that no colleague from European countries had raised the issue of Gruevski's asylum request.

Sijarto pointed out that the local authorities did not participate in organizing his trip from Skopje to Budapest, reports Tanjug.

He says that the Hungarian authorities first learned about the case in one of the neighboring countries and that Gruevski "entered Hungary in accordance with the law and in accordance with applicable national and international laws, and that border crossing was completely legitimate."

"Hungarian support for Macedonia is not a matter of party or government sympathies," Szijarto said and once again reiterated the position of the government in Budapest that the issue of Gruevski's asylum request is legal, not political.

Elenko Milanov, one of the members of Gruevski's legal team, stated that his client contacted him from Hungary on November 13 and gave him a phone number from which they can communicate.

Milanov told Skopje TV Telma that he reported it to the court and said that he had nothing to hide, and that the Macedonian MUP knew about everything that was in his phone.

Meanwhile, the authorities in Skopje will file a request for Gruevski's extradition today, regardless of the fact that he has been granted asylum.
