Tomorrow, former Prime Minister of Macedonia and MP Nikola Gruevski will officially ask the court to postpone the prison sentence to which he was sentenced, Telma Television announced.

Gruevski's legal team will cite at least two reasons in the request to postpone going to prison, which are related to his mandate as a deputy in the Macedonian parliament and the obligations he has assumed.

The Criminal Court in Skopje has three days to decide whether to accept Gruevski's request, and in the event that the answer is positive, the postponement of serving the prison sentence can be up to one year at most.

Nikola Gruevski's defense attorneys have already submitted a request to the Supreme Court to review the decision on the two-year prison sentence and postpone the serving of the sentence until the appeal is decided.

Gruevski, who was legally sentenced to two years in prison for the illegal purchase of a luxury "Mercedes S 600 Guard" in 2012, while he was prime minister, received an invitation on Friday to report to the Skopje prison by November 8 at the latest Shuto Orizari.

At the same time, the Skopje Criminal Court informed the Speaker of the Parliament of the finality of the verdict, which started the deadlines for the revocation of the mandate, which requires a two-thirds majority of the 120-member parliament.

In addition to Gruevski, in the court proceedings for the case called "Tank", Gordana Jankuloska, then Minister of Internal Affairs and close associate of Gruevski, was sentenced to six years, while her assistant Đoko Popovski was sentenced to four and a half years.

The purchase of the luxury car became known in 2015 when the opposition published a wiretapped conversation, in which Gruevski asked then Minister of Police and close party associate Gordana Jankulovska that the Ministry of Internal Affairs buy a Mercedes that he would use, without the public finding out.
