The trial of the leader of the Alliance for a Better Future (SBB) Fahrudin Radončić, who was accused of bribery and obstructing the work of judicial authorities in the case of drug lord Naser Keljmendi, began today in the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Apart from Radončić, Bakir Dautbašić, Bilsena Šahman and Zijad Hadžijahić are accused in this case.
At the beginning of the trial, prosecutor Božo Mihajlović presented accusations against Radončić and others, stating that Radončić organized a criminal group that tried to trade influence and obstruct the work of judicial authorities.
Prosecutor Mihajlović assessed that all allegations from the indictment will be proven during the trial, and that there is extensive documentation and witnesses for this.
In the opening statement, the defense assessed that it was a political process, and Radončić himself addressed the Court and said that "one of the prosecutors in the investigation treated him personally and his success in a biased manner".
Radončić requested that the court be fair, warning that they had previously tried to accuse him of threatening to kill Naser Keljmendi, of threatening Zijad Turković, and Sadik Ahmetović, whom Radončić succeeded as Minister of Security of BiH, once accused him of organizing criminal organization.
Radončić also said that "in 2013, a member of the BiH Presidency accused him of ordering political murders."
The trial was attended by a large number of members of Radončić's party, which is why most of the journalists did not have a seat in the courtroom, so they had to follow the trial from the room to the courtroom with a sound system.
At the end of today's hearing, Asim Crnalić, Radončić's lawyer, again requested that the Trial Chamber consider the defense's request that his client be released from custody
