The leader of the Civic Initiative, Oliver Ivanović, was found guilty of war crimes and sentenced to nine years in prison.
The sentencing of Ivanović and four other Serbs began with a delay in the Basic Court in Kosovska Mitrovica due to technical problems with the sound system.
In Kosovska Mitrovica today, an increased presence of the Kosovo Police was visible, reports Tanjug.
Both gates leading to the courthouse were closed and controlled by members of the Kosovo Police.
Members of the police were deployed in large numbers around the court, they also controlled the access streets to the court, and traffic was closed in several streets leading to the court building in Kosovska Mitrovica.
In addition to the relatives and friends of the five Serbs, Dejan Pavićević, the Serbian government's liaison officer for Pristina, and Dušan Kozarev, the deputy director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, were in the courtroom.
