Albanian police arrested eight students who threw eggs at Prime Minister Edi Rama.
With that act, the students expressed their displeasure at the high tuition fees at the universities.
The arrest of students, which was allegedly accompanied by beatings, led to student protests in Tirana, "Blic" reports.
Local media report that the police responded brutally to the protests, and the number of arrested students is increasing, but this did not reduce their intensity.
Sali Berisha, the former prime minister, today called on the leaders of the Albanian MUP to stop violence against students.
Albanian student organizations have condemned the response of the police, characterizing it as an apparatus in the hands of the state, which wants to enrich private faculties through education reform (which implies higher tuition fees).
As three students from Kosovo were among those detained, some media connected the protests with the "Self-Determination" movement.
