The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, announced this evening that persons who attacked tonight in Kruševac the leader of the Serbian Left and one of the founders of the Alliance for Serbia, Borko Stefanović, and two other activists of the Left.
"The state reacted urgently and did its job and showed that Serbia is not a banana country where you can hit anyone for anything," Vucic said at a press conference in Belgrade when asked about the incident in Krusevac.
He said that he has no right to advocate for a harsher punishment because that would be interfering with the independence of the judiciary.
He also pointed out that Serbia must be a country where human rights and freedoms are respected, including different opinions and the right to public assembly.
Vučić also said that Stefanović and two other young men suffered minor injuries.
