British Prime Minister David Cameron said that what happened in Srebrenica 20 years ago should never be forgotten.
Cameron attended the commemoration of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide in Westminster Abbey. Several hundred Bosniaks and Britons attended the commemoration. .
"We must never forget what happened in Srebrenica," Cameron said.
The British Prime Minister said that the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica is a moment to remember the suffering of thousands of people, as well as their families, the BBC reported.
"The XNUMXth anniversary is a moment to remember the many thousands who lost their lives, to remember their families and the missing, as well as the fact that for many - including the Mothers of Srebrenica - the agony continues every day, undisturbed by the passage of time," Cameron said.
"We must reaffirm our determination to prevent genocides in the future," said the British prime minister.
Munira Subašić, president of the Association of Mothers of Srebrenica, also spoke at the ceremony.
Lord Paddy Ashdown, who was the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2002, also spoke at the commemoration.
"Whether it was a mistake, a bad assessment, an inability to understand or simply carelessness, we stood aside when we shouldn't have. That's why we should remember Srebrenica, not only to draw attention to those who suffered, but also as a warning to all of us what happens like turning our backs," Ashdown said.
About 100 events have been organized throughout Great Britain on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica.
