Resolution on Srebrenica soon in the EP?

In order for Jakovčić's proposal to be included on the agenda of the plenary session that will be held in Strasbourg from July 6 to 9, on the eve of the tenth anniversary of the crime, representatives of other large parliamentary groups should also agree to it.

Apart from the United Nations Security Council, the proposal for a resolution on Srebrenica could also be on the agenda of the European Parliament next month, provided that the main parliamentary groups agree on it.

The proposal for a resolution, in which the Srebrenica victims are honored, and the European institutions are called on to take all measures to ensure that such a crime is never repeated, was drafted by the European MP Ivan Jakovčić, and it was adopted by the Alliance of European Liberals and Democrats (ALDE), the third strongest group in the EP.

"It is very important that the draft resolution was unanimously accepted in ALDE, and consultations are underway among parliamentary groups on how to commemorate this greatest tragedy in Europe after the Second World War," Jakovčić told Tanjug.

Asked how his proposal differs from the resolution on the same topic that the EP adopted back in 2009, in which July 11 was declared the European Day of Remembrance for the victims of Srebrenica, Jakovčić replied that it also contains an invitation to the EU to open a clear European perspective to all the countries of the Western Balkans. .

"It is an additional political message, and I wish that the genocide that took place and the sadness that is still going on become a light for the perspective of new generations of all Balkan countries," said the deputy, who was elected to the Parliament through the Croatian Istrian Democratic Alliance (IDS).

In order for Jakovčić's proposal to be included in the agenda of the plenary session that will be held in Strasbourg from July 6 to 9, on the eve of the tenth anniversary of the crime, representatives of other large parliamentary groups should also agree to it.

"It is possible that the Presidency of the EP will decide on another format, but I am sure that the Parliament will commemorate the Srebrenica sadness, because it is our human and moral obligation," Jakovčić told Tanjug.
