Albania wants to improve cooperation with Serbia and for the two countries to progress together towards the European Union, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama told AFP.
"We want to improve cooperation with Serbia and achieve progress together on the path of peace, cooperation and integration in the EU," said Rama ahead of Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić's visit to Tirana this week.
AFP points out that it will be the first official visit to Albania by a Prime Minister of Serbia.
Vučić will speak with Ram on Wednesday, and on Thursday he will speak at the economic forum in Tirana, which is attended by the leaders of the countries of the region.
The Albanian prime minister visited Belgrade six months ago, which was the first visit of an Albanian prime minister to Serbia in the last 68 years.
The director of the press service of the Albanian Prime Minister Endri Fuga said earlier that Vučić will arrive in Tirana on Wednesday at noon, and after the official ceremony he will go to the Brigada Palace where a reception will be held, the Albanian agency ATA reported.
Vučić and Rama will hold a tete-a-tete meeting, which will be followed by a meeting of the two delegations, after which the two prime ministers will hold a joint press conference.
According to the spokesman of the Albanian government, it is still waiting for the protocol of the Prime Minister of Serbia to confirm his meetings with other Albanian officials such as the president of the state, the president of the assembly or the mayor of Tirana.
On the second day of his visit to Tirana, the Prime Minister of Serbia will participate in the first session of the Vienna Economic Forum announced for May 28.
The Vienna Economic Forum will bring together the prime ministers of several Adriatic and Black Sea countries, reports ATA.
Last night, in an interview on TV B92, Vučić said that Albania and the Albanian people are expanding, both economically and politically, and that we must take care that we have very good relations and strive to have as many investors as possible in that country, as well as trade surplus.
On May 21, he stated that he is optimistic about the trip to Albania, emphasizing that he is going there to build good relations, that this is because Serbia has a clear and good policy and is recognized as a pillar of stability.
Reminding that this is the first visit of the Serbian Prime Minister to Albania in history, he added that, apart from establishing better relations, he also wants to discuss everything that currently divides us, considering that it can be bridged, and that the differences are no longer so great.
