The Municipal Court in Sarajevo sentenced the President of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Živko Budimir, to a conditional prison sentence of six months for illegal possession of weapons, Sarajevo's "Dnevni Avaz" announced today.
Budimir will not serve that sentence if he does not commit a new criminal offense within a year.
On April 26, 2013, members of the Investigation and Protection Agency (Sipa) of BiH searched Budimir's office and found a gun with seven bullets, one of which was in the barrel.
"The prosecution managed to prove that the accused committed a criminal offense as stated in the indictment, and we believe that a suspended sentence will achieve the purpose of punishment," said judge Sanela Rondić.
Explaining the verdict, she stated that the Court did not find aggravating circumstances for the accused, while it took into account as mitigating circumstances that Budimir had no previous convictions, that the gun was not acquired on the black market, that he was a family man, and that he behaved correctly during the trial. .
Budimir and his lawyer Ragib Hadžić did not attend the sentencing.
