Kosovo: Construction of the Pristina - Skopje highway has begun

With a solemn ceremony in the village of Ugljare, which is located between the municipalities of Kosovo Polje and Gračanica, the construction of the Pristina-Đeneral Jankovic-Skoplje highway began today, which is a project that the opposition announces will be reconsidered, and during the ceremony the American ambassador Ann Jacobson refused to speak.

At the ceremony, Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said that this is one of the most important projects that connects people and enables people to come closer and develop the economy.

Thaci added that this highway will bear the name of the great Albanian intellectual and politician from Macedonia, Arber Dzaferi.

The ceremony was also attended by Macedonian Deputy Prime Minister Musa Džaferi, who thanked him for this great project, emphasizing that governments are remembered for such "grandiose projects".

Due to the rush to start the highway, the DSK-ABK-Initiative for Kosovo and Self-Determination coalition criticized the Kosovo government, pointing out that the new government has not yet been formed, that the current government has resigned and has no right to make such big decisions, and they announce that the new government will review the entire project.

The highway project will cost the Kosovo government 600 million euros. The contractor will be the American-Turkish company Bechtel - Enka.
