Sergey Lavrov arrived on a two-day visit to Belgrade

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, arrived in Belgrade today, and he was welcomed at the "Nikola Tesla" airport by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Head of Serbian Diplomacy, Ivica Dacic.

Dacic and Lavrov, who came on a two-day visit to Serbia, went from the airport to the Cemetery of the Liberators of Belgrade, where the Russian head of diplomacy laid wreaths at the Monument to Soviet Soldiers.

The head of Russian diplomacy said that he bows to the courage of the Soviet and Yugoslav soldiers who liberated Belgrade and that he respects the Serbian people because they preserve the memory of the fallen heroes.

At the end, the representatives of the Serbian parliament "Zavetnici", while chanting "Russia, Russia", handed the Russian head of diplomacy a T-shirt with the inscription "Serbs and Russians, brothers forever".

Dacic pointed out, after Lavrov's arrival, that this event was another step in the development of political relations between two brotherly and friendly countries.

"The Russian Federation and Serbia have signed a strategic partnership agreement and we want to continue to develop our relations in the spirit of friendship," said Dacic after the Russian foreign minister landed at the Belgrade airport.

In a short address to journalists, Lavrov emphasized that he highly values ​​the position of Serbia, which wants unification and not separation in Europe, because as he said, Russia wants all EU and Eurasian countries to be in a common economic and humanitarian space.

During his visit to Belgrade, Lavrov will meet with Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić and President Tomislav Nikolić.

"During the visit, all aspects of bilateral relations will be discussed in detail, the course of implementation of the set tasks will be assessed, new directions of cooperation will be determined," said the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alexander Lukashevich, in Moscow.

Special attention will be devoted to the improvement of political cooperation in the spirit of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Serbia and Russia, which was signed on May 24 last year in Sochi, added the spokesman of the Russian Ministry.

An important place in the dialogue with Belgrade is traditionally occupied by economic cooperation, Lukašević pointed out, noting that it is gradually strengthening.

The volume of trade last year, according to the data of the State Customs Service of the RF, reached two billion dollars, which is 15 percent more than in 2012, and that trend continues.

Lavrov referred to the situation in Ukraine

Lavrov, answering a question from a journalist of a foreign media, briefly referred to the situation in Ukraine and sent a message to the government in Kyiv.

"We have already said what we have to say, the Ukrainian leadership must stop the violence and deal with the gas issue and all the cards are on that side of the table," Lavrov said.
