Slavko Ćuruvija was killed in a second attempt, according to the unconfirmed indictment filed by the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime.
This was published by the newspaper "Politika" in its Friday edition, based on an insight into the 9-page indictment that was filed on June 126.
As the paper writes, the indictment does not state who the orderer is, but it is stated that the orders were issued by the former head of the Department of State Security (DB), Radomir Marković, who chose members of the Belgrade DB center as the executors, because he was the commander of the special operations unit at the time. (JSO) Milorad Ulemek Legija refused to kill the owner of "Daily Telegraph" and "European" because of the obligations of his unit in Kosovo.
So Marković, the indictment says, chose Milan Radonjić, Miroslav Kurak and Ratko Romić.
According to the indictment, Ćuruvija was killed by Miroslav Kurak, and his accomplice was Ratko Romić, who hit Ćuruvija's wife Branka Prpa in the head with the handle of a pistol.
According to the indictment, Ćuruvija was killed because of "public appearances in the country and abroad and the mole of political power holders, the ability to influence public opinion and the actions of oppositional social forces, in order to preserve the existing government".
The paper writes that Marković, after Legija's rejection, informed Milan Radonjić about the murder plan, whom he appointed as head of the Belgrade center.
Radonjić provided an official car and issued an order to the third, seventh and ninth departments of the CRDB to follow Ćuruvija and collect information about him.
He assigned Kurak and Romić a white "Golf 3" car, which they used to drive to the Ćuruvija building, where they listened to reports from members of the ninth department about his movements via radio stations.
According to the indictment, Kurak and Romić approached Ćuruvija and Prpi on April 11, 1999, between 16.38:16.45 p.m. and XNUMX:XNUMX p.m., and then Kurak shot Ćuruvija, at whom he first fired five bullets.
He then got carried away and fell, and Romić hit Prpa in the head. Kurak then approached to a distance of 0,8 meters and fired seven more bullets.
The paper also states that Ćuruvija was supposed to be killed on April 10. As stated in the indictment, based on the monitoring of the telephone communication between Romić, Radonjić and Kurak, it was established that Radonjić shouted at the workers of the accompanying department why they did not report every change in movement.
Based on that, the prosecutor established that Ćuruvija should have been killed the day before.
Lawyer Slobodan Ružić, who is the representative of Ćuruvija's daughter and son, said that he believes that the murderers will be convicted.
"It is about circumstantial evidence, but I have no doubt that those people killed Ćuruvija. When there are 20 circumstantial evidences, then the court can establish guilt and I believe that they will be convicted," said Ružić.
The case was assigned to judge Rastko Popović, and the accused have the right to object to the indictment, which will be decided by the Criminal Panel of the court.
When the indictment becomes final, a preliminary hearing will be scheduled, followed by the main trial.
