The gynecology and obstetrics department of the Health Center in Pirot was empty yesterday because all the employed specialist doctors were arrested for accepting bribes.
Six gynecologists were questioned at the High Public Prosecutor's Office on suspicion that they had received bribes in the total amount of 313.430 dinars (about 2.700 euros) from the owner of a private gynecological clinic over two years.
The doctors of the Health Center referred female patients to a private clinic, where they were subjected to unauthorized analyzes that revealed genetic anomalies in early pregnancy. Given that the aforementioned analyzes are covered by regular health insurance, doctors took advantage of the lack of information of some patients who paid for the testing to a private clinic, even though it was not authorized to do so.
