Dragan Đilas remains the president of the Democratic Party since his report was supported by 274 members of the Main Board, 127 were against, ten abstained, and 15 were invalid.

After almost twelve hours of work, the members of the GO decided that Đilas will remain the president of the party until the end of the local elections in Belgrade.

If those results are not satisfactory, Đilas himself proposed to hold an extraordinary assembly of the party where the Democrats will elect a new leadership.

This was also the proposal of the deputy president, Bojan Pajtić, who suggested that an extraordinary election assembly of that party be held in Belgrade after the elections.

Mićunović: DS to be united in the campaign for Belgrade

The President of the Political Council of the Democratic Party, Dragoljub Mićunović, called on all members of that party, not only the Main Board, to participate in the campaign for the Belgrade elections and achieve a good result.

Mićunović told journalists after the almost 12-hour session of the Main Board that the Democratic Party is an example of how democracy must develop and that he expects the entire party, despite the pressures, to participate unitedly in the upcoming campaign for the Belgrade Assembly.

Pajtić: DS showed unity, we are going to win the elections

The deputy president of the Democratic Party, Bojan Pajtić, said that at the session of the Main Board, that party showed unity and that it is entering the campaign for the local elections in Belgrade as a single entity with the aim of winning.

After the marathon session of the Main Board, Pajtić said that it is the only party that can discuss internal matters in such an open and democratic manner.

"The Democratic Party has a historical responsibility to resist this authoritarian government that has no results, and the session of the Main Board is a good incentive for the membership to take part in the campaign for local elections in Belgrade," Pajtic said.

He said that the DS candidate won 35 percent of the votes in the previous elections in Belgrade and that he believes that Dragan Đilas will at least repeat that result.

When asked if this means that Đilas is officially the holder of the DS list in the elections in Belgrade, Pajtić said that the decision should be made by the City Committee in Belgrade, but that it is his personal opinion that it will be so because, as he said, Đilas is the best candidate.

When asked by a journalist whether the electoral assembly of the DS will be held after the Belgrade elections, Pajtic said that the Main Committee discussed the report of the party president today and that other issues were not on the agenda.

"There were some proposals to hold the election assembly immediately, that is, not to accept the president's work report, but the assembly accepted his report," said Pajtić.
