Branka Prpa, the widow of Slavko Ćuruvija, stated that Miroslav Kurak did not shoot her husband on April 11, 1999.
Branka Prpa said for the new issue of NIN, which will be published on Thursday, that Kurak is her new name, reports Beta.
"It's a new name for me, but he didn't shoot Slavko. He doesn't look like that person to me. I didn't see the other person who hit me on the head with a gun from behind," said Branka Prpa.
She confirmed that she saw Ćuruvija's killer and described him: "He was young, he had a black cap and was dressed in black. I remember that coldness, that peace of someone who takes his life."
Branka Prpa stated that, although she saw the face of the man who shot, the police first called her to reconstruct the image of the murderer only in November 2000, 19 months after the murder, and the last time she was a witness to the murder was in the District Court in January in 2007
"Now here we are in 2014, and since then there has been nothing worth mentioning, nor have they contacted me anymore," said Branka Prpa.
She pointed out that there were various manipulations in the press as well and that is why she is very careful.
"A photo-robot of a potential killer was published, which later contacted me from Finland. It was all a set-up, the police call such release of misinformation to the public "rabbits". And it continues to this day," said Branka Prpa.
The case is not solved
Prpa said that the murder was not solved, but "only the obvious" was solved.
"This is solving only the obvious, the most obvious," Prpa told Radio-Television of Vojvodina and assessed that the data published today had been available since November 2000.
She assessed that - both politically and ethically - the case was "bizarre and confused" and added that these days she had not heard anything new about her husband's murder.
"It is a notorious fact that the current First Vice-President of the Government of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, was the Minister of Information at the time of the murder of Slavko Ćuruvija, that the current President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolić, was the Vice-President of the Government of Serbia, that the JUL-radical coalition was key in creating the Law on Information from October 1998 ., when the intense persecution of independent journalists began, and above all Slavko Ćuruvija," Prpa stated.
According to her, it is impossible that none of them knew anything about the murder.
She assessed that there have been many apologies in recent years, but all of them were "blasphemous".
"It is much stronger than an apology itself to tell the truth and to testify about what you consider yourself responsible for, and to leave the decision to me whether I will forgive you or not," said Branka Prpa and added that "human blood they don't wash".
She assessed that, if the investigation stops at the fact that the former head of the State Security Service, Rade Marković, is the main orderer of the murder, then nothing has been done.
"SDB is only an operational, executive part - they carry out the orders of the political top... It was a criminal state that, instead of protecting its citizens, killed its citizens, according to the orders of the political top", said Branka Prpa. She pointed out that in any case, the statements of Mirjana Marković, the wife of the late President Slobodan Milošević, should be taken into account, and that aspect should also be examined.
Legion spoke
Milorad Ulemek Legija decided to speak in detail about the murder of Slavko Ćuruvija and did not ask for anything in return, said the Serbian Prosecutor for Organized Crime Miljko Radisavljević at a conference in the Government of Serbia
"Ratko Romić and Milan Radonjić, who were arrested today, together with Radet Marković, killed Ćuruvija. We came to this information based on the testimony of a witness who decided to speak. It is Milorad Ulemek Legija, who did not ask for anything in return for presenting this information. And he was one of the key actors in that period - said Radisavljević.
Milan Radonjić and Ratko Romić, suspected of participating in the murder of Slavko Ćuruvija, were arrested this morning in Belgrade.
Radonjić and Romić have been mentioned for years as being involved in the murder of journalist Slavko Ćuruvija on April 11, 1999 in the center of Belgrade.
According to Belgrade media in recent days, the suspects in that case are the head of DB Radomir Marković and a member of the special security service at DB Miroslav Kurak.
Marković is in prison in Požarevac, and Kurak is not available to the judicial authorities of Serbia and an international warrant will be issued for him.
Romić, a former DB operative, said earlier today that he expects to be arrested for the murder of journalist Slavko Ćuruvija, but claims that he did not participate in that crime. Romić says he will prove it in court.
"I know I will be arrested. I am in Belgrade, I am calm and composed, they can arrest me. I will defend myself with the truth because I did not participate in it and I will prove it," Romić told Politika.
He stated that he can prove where he was on April 11, 1999, at the time when Ćuruvija, the owner of the newspapers "Dnevni telegraf" and "Europljanin" was killed, as well as that he has evidence of his movements on that day and an explanation of the car that was charged in the service, which was allegedly seen at the scene of the crime.
The former agent assessed that it is "regrettable" that, as he says, the media in Serbia announce indictments, make arrests and write verdicts.
Romić, who was the head of the Sixth Department of the Belgrade Center of the DB, in August of last year, the Appellate Court annulled the first-instance verdict of seven years in prison for aiding the assassination of Vuk Drašković in Budva, and sent the case back for a retrial.
"There is no evidence linking me to the murder of Ćuruvija, but there was no evidence of my involvement in the 'Budva' case, so I have been on trial for several years," said the former DB agent.
The daily newspapers "Danas" and "Blic" announced that the indictment for the murder of Ćuruvija had been written and that it included the former head of the DB Rade Marković, the former head of the Belgrade center of the DB Milan Radonjić, as well as operatives Romić and Miroslav Kurak.
Romić confirmed to Politica that he is "occasionally in contact" with Kurak, and said that he has been in Tanzania with his family since 2006, but added that he thinks that Kurak is no longer in that country.
