The President of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, today honored retired Croatian generals Anto Gotovina and Mladen Markač, on the occasion of the Day of Victory and Homeland Gratitude and the Day of Croatian Veterans. The Croatian president awarded Gotovina and Markač with the Order of King Petar Krešimir the Fourth with a ribbon, the cabinet of the Croatian president announced, as reported by Hina. In August 1995, Gotovina and Markač led the military-police operation Storm. The Hague Tribunal acquitted them of charges of war crimes committed during the Storm, although it sentenced Gotovina to 24 and Markač to 18 years in prison in the first-instance proceedings.
