Dissatisfied farmers from Baranja set off, exactly at noon, with 50 tractors on a protest drive to Zagreb and expect that another thousand tractors will join them along the Podravska highway, Croatian media reports.
However, the police stopped the column of tractors already at the entrance to Osijek, on the Baranja ring road, blocking their way with five "maricas".
The protest participants are asking the Croatian government to accept their demands - the payment of the remaining 37 percent of incentives and the price of wheat of at least HRK 1,35 (EUR 0,18), which they claim has been agreed with the European Union.
As reported by Croatian Television, some farmers are ready for harsher protests, including blockades of all border crossings.
Croatian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Snježana Španjol said that the only methods in the joint fight against the poor state of Croatian agriculture are conversation and an attempt to find a solution.
"Because of this state of affairs, blockades and blackmail, the economy, tourism and citizens are suffering," added Španjol.
