A worker at the Unidal factory in Vinkovac became a hero in Croatia because she gave up her job to a single mother of two children, writes Croatian Glas Slavonije.
Namely, this factory, which employs 130 workers, made the decision to fire three employees due to the crisis. Among them was a single mother of two children for whom this income was the only source of income.
Drago Osrečki, director of Unidal, called a meeting to decide who will be fired. It was suggested that they were three people who were recently employed at the factory, and among them was a single mother.
When the young woman from Vinkovci heard that, she decided to quit her job instead of the single mother.
"As I am still free and without obligations and live with my parents, can I leave my workplace to my colleague? I want to give my workplace to my colleague, but with the guarantee that the place will be for her only," she told the director.
As Glas Slavonia writes, many people cried after that speech, and director Osrečki said with his head down and eyes full of tears that it was possible.
No one could believe that she would actually do something like that, but as she later explained, it would be easier for her to manage than her colleague who, along with her children, also has credit obligations.
