Today, the Croatian police detained two activists of the Civic Initiative association, who in Ustasha uniforms protested in front of the Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) building because, as they said, of glorifying fascism on public television.
The Citizens' Initiative told journalists that they had reported the artistic performance to the police, who, however, waited for them in front of the HRT building and detained them.
With that performance, as they stated, they wanted to warn against the glorification of fascism on public television, that is, to present a thank-you note to the TV Kalendar show, which aired a report on the infamous Ustasha Jura Francetić at the end of December. In that report, the "Ustasha butcher", as they called him, is portrayed as a "legendary fighter" who broke out on the Drina and fought against the partisans, "the evil butchers of Croats, in Bosnia and around Sarajevo and Han Pijesk".
"We demanded that the police arrest TV calendar editor Vladimir Brnardić for portraying Jure Francetić as a hero, but they refused. Just as they refuse to arrest Ustashas at Thompson's concerts or football matches," the Civic Initiative said.
The Zagreb police told reporters that they are still checking all the circumstances of the event, but confirmed that two men dressed in uniforms with Ustasha insignia were arrested.
The citizens' initiative had previously asked HRT to remove the editor of the TV Kalendar show because of the controversial show, while the public television said that the acting editor-in-chief of Croatian Television is dealing with the controversial show, but that they do not want to talk about it in public because of the possible " politicization".
