Kostunica: European integration brings only harm to Serbia

The president of the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), Vojislav Koštunica, said that European integration and the candidacy for EU membership bring only harm to Serbia and that further collapse of the country can only be prevented if it becomes politically neutral.

"When we take paper and pencil and calculate what Serbia has lost on the European road in the last four years, both when it comes to Kosovo and when it comes to the economy, and when it comes to further threats to the collapse of the constitutional order, then our common sense orders us to find another and better way in order to survive and develop the country normally," Koštunica said at the presentation of the "Program for the Development of Serbia from 2012 to 2017 - New Industrialization" in Belgrade's Sava Center.

The DSS called on Serbian citizens to put an end to, as stated, the further collapse of the country, which is only possible if a new policy is established.

"This is possible if the new assembly and the new government declare the political neutrality of Serbia," Koštunica said.

"What will be the government's justification when, even after the candidacy, the deterioration of the economy continues even more strongly and the pressures to round off the state called Kosovo with an asterisk increase even more," asked Koštunica.

He said that Serbia, as a politically neutral country, would also lead an economic policy that is in accordance with the idea of ​​neutrality, that is, in that case, it would have developed economic cooperation with the EU, which is in Serbia's interest, and not, as now, assessed by Koštunica, be implemented by the SAA. which causes serious damage to the Serbian economy.

"But what will be the government's justification now when, even after the candidacy, the deterioration of the economy continues even more and the pressures to round off the state called Kosovo with an asterisk increase even more," asked Koštunica.

The president of the DSS also said that with this state of affairs in the European Union and this state of affairs in the Eurozone, it is quite certain that European integration and candidacy will bring Serbia "only damage both economically and politically".
