The mayor of Makarska, Marko Ožić Bebek (HDZ), offered the Večernji List journalist Hasan Haidar Diab, who introduced himself as a rich Qatari sheikh and co-owner of Al Jazeera, numerous projects in which it would be worth investing, including the hotel Dalmacija, and in the end he promised to fix it for him. and prostitutes, but he did not offer to pay for the coffee.
With all that, as reported by the site tportal the mayor publicly called out the president of his party, Jadranka Kosor, for not caring at all about Makarska tourism.
The "Sheikh" stayed at the Meteor Hotel together with the translator, and although he had neither a large yacht nor a rich entourage, but was dressed in traditional Arab clothes, the gullible Makarani, above all the mayor, thought that it was a wealthy Sheikh from Qatar who ready to invest about 100 million dollars.
"Well, that would save us. You know, our government does nothing when it comes to Makarska tourism. Here, I would offer several projects to the sheikh, for which he would quickly return the money," said Ožić Bebek to a Večernji journalist.
Tportal reports that the mayor offered the sheikh the construction of a cable car, for which a project has been prepared, for 10 million dollars, the expansion of the sports center where new courts for basketball, handball, volleyball and pool would appear, the purchase of the Dalmacija hotel for 40 million dollars, but also " an excellent piece of land right next to the beach on which a tourist center with hotels can be built".
And a beach just for the sheikh
When the conversation was coming to an end, the sheikh asked Bebek where he and his entourage could swim and have fun when he came with the yacht, and the mayor offered him a beach where not many tourists come.
"We will adapt the beach to the sheikh and his needs," Bebek explained to the translator, and in the end the sheikh decided to look for something just for himself.
He told the mayor that Croatian women are beautiful women and asked him if anything could be done about it.
"Of course. The next time he comes, everything will be arranged. My friend, the director of a hospital, has everything under control. He knows how and when to get what he wants. Through him, we will arrange everything he likes. Of course, with guaranteed discretion." Ožić Bebek concluded.
Bebek: They subvert and invent
"It's a good stunt for them. But ninety percent of what is in the text is made up. They deceived me. What kind of journalist is he who impersonates himself. You can see that he was well instructed, but not informed," said Bebek.
Asked to explain who staged it all, he replied "you know that very well".
When asked if it is common practice for the mayor to offer prostitutes to investors, Ožić Bebek replied "that he cannot offer something that does not exist in Makarska".
He is not currently thinking about a possible lawsuit against the journalist, who, as he said, invented a lot of things, but he regrets that he did not record everything so that the real truth could be seen.
