The president of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats, Milorad Dodik, said today that he will ask the party authorities to exclude the SNSD from the Socialist International (SI), and stated that he is not officially aware of the reasons why the party was suspended from the SI, as reported by BiH media.
Commenting on yesterday's announcement by the Social Democratic Party of BiH that the SNSD was suspended from the SI, Dodik told journalists in Banja Luka that the SDP BiH has been lobbying the Ethics Committee of the SI against the SNSD for four or five years.
Dodik said that SDP BiH is doing this because in 2006 SNSD came to power in joint institutions with, allegedly, extreme right-wing parties such as the Party of Democratic Action (SDA).
"When we won the elections in 2006 on behalf of the RS, we joined joint bodies, because if we hadn't, the OHR would have accused us of obstructing joint institutions," he said and stated that today the SDP BiH is in a coalition with the same SDA.
"For someone to complain in public that we are now obstructing the formation of the government and that we need to be pressured is a cowardly method, and if, allegedly, we do not correct our behavior, they will consider further sanctions, and good behavior would mean a coalition with the SDP," Dodik said. .
The Council of the SI in Athens yesterday, as announced by the SDP, based on the recommendation of the Ethics Committee, suspended the SNSD from that organization.
He said that the SNSD did not benefit from membership in the Socialist International.
"I think that the politics of SI, which has dominated the world for years and brought the world into crisis. We cannot allow anyone to blackmail us by cooperating with SDP BiH, not even SI," said Dodik.
Dodik also said that SNSD is in discussions about cooperation with some powerful parties, such as United Russia.
"Representatives of European socialist parties sitting in the Socialist International are nowhere in power, and that's why I don't think it's important news. We will certainly sign an agreement on cooperation with United Russia in the coming time," said Dodik.
