Scientists from the Faculty of Science in Split have discovered an innovative antibiotic that kills bacteria using a different method than classic antibiotics and shows excellent effectiveness in the fight against Escherichia coli samples.
Prof. dr. Davor Juretić in cooperation with dr. Damir Vukičević et al. Alessandro Tosi from Trieste created adepantin, a drug with the potential to treat currently incurable and deadly bacterial infections, with very low toxicity for blood cells. This discovery resonated among the scientific community, said the director of the National Doctoral Institute of Biophysics, Dr. Davor Juretić.
Minced meat with Escherichia coli in France
In Lille, France, six children were infected with a new type of Escherichia coli bacteria. The source is not in the vegetables, but in the minced meat from the hamburger. Retail chain Lidl is telling customers to return all hamburgers they bought in their stores. Hamburgers were sold under the Steaks Country brand, which expired on 10. and May 11.
So far, 38 people have died, mostly in northern Germany, and more than 3000 have fallen ill.
