Today, on the 20th anniversary of the beginning of air attacks on targets in the former FR Yugoslavia, the European Union office in Kosovo assessed that March 24, 1999 was a critical date for Kosovo and the Western Balkans when a difficult period opened for the entire region and the EU.
"Now the Western Balkans share the aspiration to join the European Union, with its mission of peace and reconciliation. We respect and support today's desire for the region to play a constructive role in the stability, security and prosperity of our continent," the statement added.
The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, wrote that "the KLA on the ground and NATO in the air forced the Milošević regime to capitulate in a joint peace struggle".
According to him, the NATO intervention stopped the ethnic cleansing.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramuš Haradinaj, while giving mail to KFOR soldiers who died in Kosovo, said that 20 years ago "the tragedy of the people of Kosovo ended" and "freedom and peace were obtained".
The President of the Assembly of Kosovo, Kadri Veselji, said that the NATO attacks ended the genocidal terror in Kosovo.
"We are proud that the Alliance with NATO, which was started by the KLA, is being continued today by the Kosovo Army," wrote Veselji.
Veselji points out that the people of Kosovo will always be grateful to the leaders of the democratic world led by the United States of America.
"They were with us at the worst moment in our history. We are proud that the alliance with NATO, which was started by the KLA, is being continued today by the Kosovo Army. Always in the service of freedom and peace," said Veselji.
