Serbia: Ministry official, directors and freight forwarder arrested

In a coordinated action by members of the Security and Information Agency (BIA), the Anti-Corruption Department of the Ministry of Interior of Serbia and the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, several people were arrested on suspicion of having committed the criminal offense of influence peddling, the BIA said, the Belgrade newspaper reports. According to that media, Bojan Mišić, a freight forwarder from Niš and owner and director of BRW CARS, Draško Kandić, an employee of TRACE SERBIA, Nebojša Nešić, owner and director of HERBA FARM, and Milenko Nikić, a high-ranking official in the Ministry of Labor and Employment, were arrested. , veterans and social issues of the Government of Serbia.

As stated, they illegally demanded monetary compensation in the amount of 28 euros from the non-governmental organization "June 37.500" in order to enable the smooth import of medical equipment that the representatives of that humanitarian organization collected and sent to health institutions in Niš, Kosovo, Republika Srpska, as well as the returning Serbian communities in Croatia.

After the arrest, the business offices and residential buildings used by the arrested persons will be searched, with the aim of fixing material evidence for the committed crime, the BIA says, Kurir reports.

The suspects were detained for 48 hours.
