The story of the bird Romeo and Juliet has unfortunately come to an end. The most famous Croatian family, Malena, was left without her husband Klepetan, who died, writes RTL.hr.
Klepetan returned to Brodski Varoš on March 18, which is much earlier than usual, but he did not come back to stay with his Malena for the summer, but to say goodbye to her.
Retired janitor, Stjepan Vokić, who has been taking care of Malena for 30 years, explained that his Klepo, as he called him, came to the nest old and sick.
"Four of them (the birds) came to their mother on the board and chattered sadly for three or four hours. That's when I knew that Klepo had gone to die. You know how they say that birds die singing. Malena raised 66 little ones, that's enough for one mother. I am very attached to her. I don't go to the sea or anywhere with my friends, I always just worry about her. I try to find fish to feed her, but it's very difficult because everything is devastated," said Vokić.
Stjepan went around the area looking for Klepetan after he said goodbye to Malen, but he was unable to find him. It was then clear to him that Klepetan had died.
