In the report of the American director of the National Intelligence Service, Daniel Coats, which shows security assessments of threats in the world in 2019, it is stated that there will be a low level of risk of violence for the Balkans, reports Tanjug.
"In the Western Balkans, there will almost certainly remain some low-level risk of outbreaks of violence and the possibility of open military conflict during 2019," the section "Balkans" states briefly in the 42-page report covering the entire world.
Russia, it is further stated, will seek to use ethnic tensions and high levels of corruption to prevent the ability of the countries of the Western Balkans "to move forward towards the EU and NATO".
The part related to the security situation in Europe singles out three problematic issues - the Western Balkans region, Turkey and the exit of Great Britain from the EU.
Among other things, it writes for Turkey that "Turkish regional ambitions, mistrust of the US and the growing authoritarianism of Turkish leaders complicate bilateral relations and make Ankara more ready to challenge American regional goals."
The report devoted the largest part to global hotspots such as Syria, Iraq, Nigeria, Yemen and the threats of the Islamic State, but also to North Korea's nuclear program, space weapons, weapons of mass destruction...
A report on security threats was presented to the Senate Intelligence Committee on January 29.
