The European Commission (EC) announced today that a donor conference will be held in January for reconstruction in Albania after the earthquake in which 51 people died.
EC President Ursula von der Leyen said that EU countries have pledged to provide aid for "long-term reconstruction".
More than 13.000 people were left homeless after the earthquake, which damaged around 14.000 buildings. Experts are still assessing the damage.
The Albanian authorities have requested international financial assistance for the reconstruction, which should be completed by the end of 2020. The government allocated about 117 million dollars for reconstruction works.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 6,4 on the Richter scale hit the Adriatic coast of Albania on November 26.
